Ersha Island China -HP Reserve

Project overview

Located along Guangzhou's Ersha Island and adjacent to the Pearl River, this Residential Concept Store was designed as a neighborhood destination that connects coffee, culture, and community. A central island bar anchors the space, creating opportunities for coffee exploration while showcasing the craft behind Reserve espresso beverages, hand-brew methods, and specialty mixology offerings. Open sightlines and flexible gathering zones encourage interaction between customers and baristas, transforming the bar into the social heart of the store.

The design draws inspiration from the movement of the Pearl River, translating themes of flow, connection, and discovery into the customer experience. A warm material palette of walnut wood, terrazzo, concrete, and brass accents creates a refined yet approachable environment, while layered tones reference the craft of coffee making, from espresso crema to Nitro Cold Brew. A large-scale bean-to-cup art installation serves as a focal point, celebrating the coffee journey and reinforcing the store's open, immersive character.

Designed as a series of interconnected gathering spaces, the store encourages exploration and engagement through a deconstructed open bar, coffee education zones, and communal seating.

Flexible outdoor seating connects the café to its riverfront setting and serves as an extension of the customer experience. As part of Starbucks' pet-friendly program, the exterior includes integrated leash hooks and dedicated gathering areas designed to comfortably accommodate customers and their pets. Together, these elements create a welcoming destination that balances coffee craftsmanship, community connection, and everyday moments of discovery.
